YMCA Camp Wewa Resident Camp offers a unique opportunity for teenagers aged 14-16. The Teen Leadership Program (TLP) is designed for adolescents who are dedicated to camp, love working with kids, and have a lot of energy to give. The program is two years long, and is designed to give more responsibility and challenges each year.
As a Leader in Training (or LIT), 14-16 year olds attend camp for two weeks and stay in a cabin with other LIT’s. They are assigned to assist as a “big brother” or “big sister” to another cabin with staff counselors and possibly another TLP.
As a Camper in Training (or CIT), 16 year olds attend camp for three week, and stay in a cabin with other CIT’s for the 1st week and are assigned to another cabin with staff counselors and campers for the remaining two weeks.
As an Volunteer Staff Aid, 17 year olds can attend camp as a volunteer earning community service hours while helping staff counselors with their cabins.
During the day, the TLP’s will work at program areas (lakefront, arts and crafts, outdoor adventure, etc) and help plan activities along with the staff.
People interested in the TLP program should have a strong desire to work with children. TLP’s can join at any time between the ages of 14 – 16, and do not have to have been a camper at Camp Wewa
